from Dan Fuckin’ Young of This Providence:
About 2 weeks ago I became a home-owner. Yep, the mrs and I bought our first house! It’s moments like this when I think about how strange and beautiful life has been for me.
I was in a hurry to get started. I surprised my parents with my coming existence in the first year of their marriage and soon after I was born they bought their first house. I’m told it was a shit-box then, but Dad never stopped banging a hammer on the thing. He was constantly (and slowly) fixing it and adding to it. He likes to do that stuff…me, not as much. By the time I was 16, when we moved to the states, it was an charming and inviting little home. I loved that place so much. In “Chasing The Wind” I even wrote of the pink-painted treehouse sitting in the fork of a weeping willow in our backyard. It was home.
Now, 10 years after leaving that house, I finally have my own home! It’s really exciting, but it too is a little fixer-upper. I imagine my situation must be similar to my parents (minus the kids). Since the day we got the keys I have been slaving away dismantling and reassembling the kitchen, laundry and bathroom. I’m so sore right now, but I can’t wait till it’s done and we move in and I can punch a hole in the wall if I get really excited and I won’t have to pay anyone anything! I could just leave the hole and store treats in it!
Oh and I want a veggie patch. George Harrison was a gardener and he said it helped with his song writing, I like that idea. I’m going to be a gardener too! Ok, that’s all I got right now. Thanks. Cheers. Bye.
Dan
P.S. Here’s a picture of Andy flexing and my dad carefully inspecting our work (he’s an excessive perfectionist).
