from Dan Young of This Providence:
G’day everyone,
I recently got back from a three week trip to Australia. (Hence the cheesy greeting). Ahhh, was that just what I needed? I spent every moment there with relatives, which to some of you may seem like hell, but I hadn’t been there in almost 3 years, so it was really refreshing to reconnect with everyone that I’ve missed so dearly.
My cousin, Joel and I spent a nostalgic week away at a beach cabin our families often visited in the summer when were kids (see photo above). It was a road trip up the coast full of long winded discussions on family, sex, god, coffee, memories, food, not politics, and mostly music. At the beach we spent the majority of our time sitting on the porch, drinking and writing songs. It was awesome.
I came home inspired and jet lagged, which led to me getting up at 5 am for the first few mornings. That was very new to me, I’ve NEVER in my life been a morning person, but I’m quickly falling in love with the morning. I’ve made a habit of getting up at 6 or 7. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that I can keep it up!
It’s been great for song writing too, the songs are coming along like a damn choo-choo train - steady and strong. I’m stoked for this next record, it’s going to be us, but it’s going to be different. I know it’s going to be great, I feel some form of confidence with these songs that I’ve not felt before. I can’t wait until it’s fully written, even more, I can’t wait until it’s recorded, even more than that, I can’t wait for you to hear it!
I’m going to get back to it. Cheers!
-Dan
P.S. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!
