TOM PETTY - YOU DON’T KNOW HOW IT FEELS

Last night I drove the first 4 hours of a 9 hour drive from McAllen to Dallas, TX. I got to thinking how excited I was to almost be home. Which is all fine and good, but THEN I got to thinking, “I feel good, right now, in this moment.” Driving down a dark road, with all my best friends asleep (or trying to sleep) in the back, rocking some Tom Petty.
All this to say, I’m trying to appreciate the present more. I’m always looking to the future, as if I will soon reach perfect contentment, if I can just achieve (insert goal here). It’s good to anticipate things, but not to the point where you neglect to appreciate the here and now.
After all, one day I’m going to be look back on this period of my life, where I was struggling to pay bills, touring around the country in a 15 passenger van, playing music to people who were excited to watch us play music, and I’m going to say, “Damn, I miss those days.”
