Acceptance - Phantoms
THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Acceptance released their first and only record in 2005. It was entitled, “Phantoms.” In my opinion it is one of the greatest records of our scene. I’ve listened to it countless times, and it never ceases to evoke emotions that only music can. I think that’s something that a lot of rock bands lack.
Tonight after the show, the venue played the album. Aside from the hula-hooping, bar-tending, crazy girl dancing to the record, I loved the experience. I saw A LOT of fans singing along, myself included. So here’s my thought for the day…
Ever wonder why they didn’t release another record? I’ll let you in on a band dude’s perspective. Their record leaked, which is pretty normal these days, but their record was readily available for download 6 MONTHS BEFORE IT WAS RELEASED! I’ll admit that my band and myself had the record as soon as it was available. The record was huge, everyone had it, everyone loved it. But no one bought it.
If no one buys your record…well Acceptance is an unfortunate example. I am confident that we would all be singing along to at least another record had the album sold at the same rate that it was illegitimately downloaded.
Thanks to all our fans who have been so supportive. We are very fortunate to have fans who understand these things, and I don’t want to preach to the choir. I just thought it was interesting (and sad) to think of what could have been for one of our favourite bands if we all been more supportive.
P.S. They actually wrote most of a whole new record before breaking up. As a “going away” present they released a demo of a fantastic song, “Not Afraid. Listen to it here: myspace.com/Acceptance
If you like Acceptance, you will love this song.
